Ikebana classes
Ikebana, literally “Living Flower”, is a centuries-old Japanese art that takes its roots in the elaborate floral offerings that Buddhist priests created in temples. This ancestral practice seeks to emulate and transcend botanical beauty, and to connect Humans and Nature.
I draw on my own journey as an Ikebana practitioner and instructor (Junkako level, Ikenobo School of Ikebana) to guide you through the process of creating arrangements, using principles and techniques as a scaffolding to connect with yourself and find harmony and creativity. For Beginners classes, no prior experience with floral design is necessary. Bring your love for nature, flowers and zen spirit with you.
Attendance to regularly scheduled group classes (2-8 people) costs $40 per person if you bring your own flower materials (*), $60 per person if I provide flower materials for you. Please note: other materials and tools such as vase, kenzan and pruning shears are always available for you to borrow during class (regardless of whether I provide flowers or if you bring your own flowers). Check out the schedule below to find out dates for my next Beginners group Ikebana classes, register here and pay the lesson fee here or by Zelle (Inner-Bloom).
(*) Wondering what is appropriate to bring? Virtually anything will work and can be arranged into an Ikebana - your favorite flowers, something you found interesting at your regular grocery store, some branches or greenery from your own garden... Just keep in mind that you always need leaves/greenery along with flowers. And if you’d like to get a better idea of what to expect for your first Ikebana class, I’ve got just the post for you!
Typically, class participants bring their own pruning shears (and plant materials, if desired), and I provide vases and kenzans (Japanese flower frogs used for Ikebana arrangements) for you to borrow during class, which generally lasts between 1.5 and 2 hours. Check out the FAQ page or don’t hesitate to contact me if you need additional information about classes.

Private lessons
If none of the regular times listed above work for you, and/or you prefer to learn in a more private setting, feel free to get in touch to schedule a time that is convenient for both of us. Private lessons in my studio cost $80/pers. (if you bring your own plant materials) or $100/pers. if I provide flowers for you, and are limited to 4 people maximum (if more than 4 participants, this becomes a workshop - see below). I also offer in-your-home classes ($80/$100/pers. + travel fee, depending on where you live and if I provide flowers or not). In-your-home lessons are a great way to help you develop a sense of what you can do with what you already have on hand in your own garden throughout the seasons.
Workshops
Host an unforgettable event for your friends, colleagues or clients. You will not only craft beautiful flower arrangements together, but you will also create lasting connections and memories through flowers.
Want to learn more about Ikebana with friends? Organize a creative team-building activity for your colleagues? Or craft beautiful centerpieces with your family to amaze at your next dinner party? We can work together to bring your vision to life! Fill out the inquiry form to tell us more about your event.
Cost is $300 for 2-3 hours of engagement for up to 12 people (which includes set-up in your space, instruction and hands-on personal attention, and take-down/clean up). Budget for materials and flowers is generally between $100 and $300 per participant, depending on the type of arrangement you would like to create. For larger groups, please inquire.
I can also host your event in my own space, up to 10 participants.
